Field
of Flags
Some
years ago we were visiting friends in a beautiful seaside
area of Sidney, B.C. During an evening stroll we came across
a fantastic brick wall following the shore line. On close
examination we noted that each brick had a name, date and
address. Travelers who had taken this same walk in previous
years had purchased a brick and the enterprising town of Sidney
has created this magnificent path that has grown to some distance. |

Then we moved to Nova Scotia and were in awe
of the scenery at the back of our property and from a much
appreciated suggestion of a long ago school friend,
we thought how wonderful it would be to establish
a Field of Flags, (fashioned after the last line in
the movie, "Field of Dreams").
Over looking the magnificent bay and Cape Split, we invited
our guests to supply a flag of their state, province or country
along with the name of a shrub that would best |

represent the
same. We have started and it
is growing!!! Flags now planted permanently overlooking this
incredible vista include: Germany, Texas, Grand Cayman Islands,
Alberta, Utah, British Columbia, Florida and Ohio. Under each
flag is planted a shrub of choosing by our guests.
In addition to the shrubs are wild flowers and in the spring
of 2004, we will have installed permanent markers with each
guests name, and date they visited Ebb Tide.
This project has been slow getting going as there has been
so many things to prepare. However it promises to grow and
as new guests arrive and are thrilled at the possibility to
see their native flag flying. Each Flag is taken down in the
Fall and stored away for the winter and then re hung in the
spring.
We thank the guests named on the right for helping us to start
this delightful field.
